The World Series of Poker Circuit Sydney makes The Star Casino one of the hottest locations in the region. The most recent event which brought attention to the venue was a 6-Max tournament which was won by progressive poker player Timothy Ulmer. The American poker pro received A$93,787 for his excellent performance, as well as the coveted by many poker players WSOP gold ring at Event #7: A$1,200 6-Handed. Ulmer has quite the experience in this type of tournaments and he was well prepared for the big win.
However, as it often happens, the Pennsylvania player has never considered himself a 6-max player, and yet this is his third such tournament in which he wins big and emerges victorious. Even though this was not his initial poker career aim he managed to lay his hands on the first-place prize this Monday and prove to everyone his true poker skills. This was the first WSOP gold ring for his live poker career and as such it made the day more than special. Throughout his career, he has proven that when it comes to the style of game at such tournaments, he is always very consistent.
What Makes Ulmer a 6-Max Pro
Ulmer stated that his approach towards each hand is pretty much individual and he does not focus on his overall performance in the given event. There is also no prevalent strategy which he strives to follow throughout all of his live tournaments. Back in 2011, he won his largest prize so far, amounting to $107,950. It was when he claimed the throne at the $1,100 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Max during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. In this last event, he managed to outplay a field of 341 players in order to reach the throne on the leader board. Among them were well-known players in the poker industry which have their potential and admirable skills.
His heads-up opponent who made the duel even more riveting was Antonis ‘Toothpick Tony’ Karambouroglou who is one of the best performing players in the festival so far. So far, he made it to the final table of the $5,000 Challenge and he has cashes from various events of the rich schedule of the poker festival. Jarrod Thatcher, who last week claimed the first place at the WSOP Turbo event was also present at the final table. He and the winner are close friends and they enjoyed a fast-paced gaming experience in the 6-Max event.
Another big star at the final table was Daniel ‘Moses’ Neilson who is well-known to all poker enthusiasts. With his live poker tournament earnings amounting to $2,309,553 he was one of the potential winners at this event, however, Neilson could not make it to the top position. As for the big winner, Ulmer moved to Sydney some two years ago and ever since then he enjoys the poker culture of the area and its many tournament offerings. The last event in which he cashed was the WSOP A$450+50 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo where he finished 20th and received A$1,551 for his good performance.
