As per the latest press release of the American Gaming Association (AGA), new data on American attitudes toward casino gaming and sports betting has become publicly available. The survey, conducted by Kantar, on behalf of the AGA, covers a period from July 31 to August 9, 2024. Researchers have used a nationally representative sample of 2,000 registered voters, demonstrating a generally positive sentiment toward gaming and sports wagering.
When asked if they believe the gaming industry has adopted a sufficiently responsible approach to the communities where it operates, 75% of respondents answered affirmatively. Moreover, 75% of survey participants are in favor of sports betting in their state.
Americans’ confidence in the industry’s commitment to responsible gambling (RG) practices has substantially increased from 55% in 2023 to 65% in 2024. The surge is all the more prominent in in-person casino players and sports bettors, where percentages have risen from 70% and 78% last year to 81% and 88% this year.
The generally positive attitudes are mainly influenced by enhanced awareness across several RG areas: Responsible Marketing and Advertising, Effectiveness of RG Programs, Increased Awareness of RG Messages, and Familiarity with RG Resources.
Approximately two-thirds (65%) affirmed their belief in the truthfulness of gaming marketing and advertising. Notably, 66% of survey respondents said they believed the industry RG programs are effective, up from 59% in 2023. There is a substantial increase in the number of Americans who benefited from RG information, with 46% of physical casino players and 57% of sports bettors confirming this. Overall, a 10% increase from 56% in 2022 is observable when it comes to RG messaging.
Last but not least, Americans’ awareness of RG tools and resources has surged as well, with 76% of them confirming knowledge of at least one such instrument.
Americans Appreciate Gaming Industry’s Commitment to RG and Its Economic Impact
Joe Maloney, AGA’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Communications, commented on the recent survey findings, highlighting a steady pattern over the years. As gaming and sports betting reach new audiences, Americans are increasingly aware of the advantages a legal and properly regulated market brings, according to him. Consumers have not failed to appreciate important aspects of the regulated market, including the economic benefits it brings to communities, the increased consumer protection mechanisms, and its unparalleled entertainment potential.
Mr. Maloney underlined that the industry’s efforts to uphold high RG standards were “stronger than ever” and that consumers noticed this.
“As we embark on another Responsible Gaming Education Month, we’re more energized than ever to continue our work to give consumers the legal, safe, and fun gaming experiences that they want and deserve”, he added. The most recent data arrives in advance of Responsible Gaming Education Month which takes place this September and the seventh NFL season featuring widespread legal sports betting opportunities available to the nation.
