Alan “GladiusIII” Goehring Takes Down 2020 WSOP Online $500 No-Limit Hold’Em Freezeout Event for $119,399

The eighth event of the 2020 WSOP Online schedule kicked off on Wednesday night. The $500 No-Limit Hold’Em Freezeout managed to attract a total player field of 1,479 entries who generated a prize pool estimated at $665,550.

The “Freezeout” event was brought to an end eleven and a half hours later, when Alan “GladiusIII” Goehring emerged victorious, taking hold of his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet and a monetary prize of $119,399.67.

Alan Goehring is not a newcomer to the world of poker. He has been an active poker player for more than twenty years now, with a long list of accomplishments that date back to 1997. His overall poker career earnings amount to $5,346,961. So far, his two largest cashes were generated after him emerging victorious from two World Poker Tour (EPT) events – the $25,000 WPT Championship in 2003, in which he won a total of $1,011,886 and the $10,000 LAPC Championship Event in 2006, which added $2,391,550 to his account.

Winning the $500 No-Limit Hold’Em Freezeout event was a big accomplishment for Gohring, too, because the last time he managed to get close to winning a WSOP gold bracelet was in 1999 when he was defeated by Noel Furlong in the WSOP Main Event’s heads-up battle.

Heads-Up Battle Decided in a Few Hands Only

The money bubble was burst by “Debaser” in 208th place, after which the in-the-money eliminations commenced. Some of the notable players who managed to finish in the money were Phil “lumestackin” Hellmuth, Anthony “nowb3atthat” Spinella, Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee, Matthew “MartyCohen” Weiss”, etc.

At the time when the final table was formed, it was Randy Ohel who held the chip lead, while Scott Davies and Louie Anthony Torres being the two short stacks. It came as no surprise that Torres and Davies were the first to leave from the final-table action, with the rest of the players following one by one. At the time when the four-handed action started, there were two former WSOP bracelet winners in the game, while Goehring held almost 50% of the chips in play.

When the game was brought to the heads-up battle, the last two players standing held even stacks. However, only a few hands later, Alan Goehring managed to fight down his opponent and emerge as the event’s winner.

With Alan “GladiusIII” Goehring taking down the $500 NLH Freezeout event for $119,399, Ross “BlueTang” Gottlieb remained on the runner-up position. Gotlieb was granted with the second-largest portion of the overall prize pool, $73,942. He was followed by Randy “StayAlive” Ohel, who took the third position and captured a $52,511 prize.

The fourth place in the final table ranking was taken by Robert “bustinballs” Kuhn, followed by Brendan “clembutt” Torrejon. Drew “dudeguydrew” O’Connell became sixth, while the seventh position in the ranking was taken by Timothy “aceviper” Sterns. The last two places in the final table ranking were occupied by Scott “miamicane” Davies and Louie Anthony “xILoUieIx” Torres, respectively.
