Jarrod Thatcher Bags Gold Ring at 2017 WSOP Sydney Circuit Turbo Event

The most recent addition to the poker calendars of players around the world was the 2017 World Series of Poker Sydney Circuit which is hosted for a second consecutive year by the Star Sydney. The poker festival commenced on 28th November and over the span of 21 days, it is going to provide the poker enthusiasts with the chance to win thousands of dollars for their poker skills. The most recent lucky winner was Jarrod Thatcher who managed to defeat the competition and earn a coveted by many WSOP Circuit Gold Ring at the $500 Turbo Event

At the beginning of the final table Thatcher was the chip leader and in less than half an hour he was able to defeat all of his opponents and emerge victorious from the tournament. This brought him the precious ring as well as a sweet payday amounting to A$35,516 (US$27,135). When asked for a comment after the rapid-fire game he stated that he has spent a lot of time working on his game and perfecting his strategy in order to play flawlessly at the poker festival. Thatcher consults with a friend of his with whom he discusses certain hands and situations which could be improved.

Turbo Event Rapid Action

The Turbo Event guaranteed a fast-paced style of game. This was quickly proven by the rate with which the 343 entries were falling back and being sent home. They began their run towards the big money with chip stacks amounting to 6,000, whereas the 20-minute blind levels were escalating rapidly. Big names could be seen among the top positions of the event, among which Sam Capra, who was a runner-up in the same event last year. Yesterday he reached the fifth position on the official leader board.

Luis Arrilucea is another poker pro with a lot of potential and experience behind his back. With as much as A$300,000 in live tournament cashes and a chip leading status earlier in the tournament he was one of the potential winners of the Turbo Event but unfortunately could not make it to the top positions. In the meantime, the big winner was able to eliminate five of his eight final table rivals which then guaranteed him the first place and a new addition to his poker jewellery collection. He stated that he intends to participate in the 6 Max and the Main Event of the poker festival.

The Aussie poker pro is well-known in the field in Australia even though he is fairly new in the live poker scene. The first time his name was listed on a live tournament leader board was back in 2016 when he participated in A$500 No-Limit Hold’em Public Holiday Tournament at the same casino venue. He managed to reach the 11th place and for this received A$2,146 (US$1,554). His total live earnings amount to US$103,466 and most of it was won this August at the A$1,500+150 No-Limit Hold’em Main Event of the Melbourne Poker Championships 2017. He became the champion and received the impressive prize of A$101,610 (US$80,086).
