The citizens of the state of Florida continue their campaign to put a limit on gambling in the state and make its expansion harder to accomplish and so far there have been more than 400,000 signatures collected in their petition. The proposed amendment to the regulation will make the process harder, while there is another proposal regarding the rights of the felons which is also attracting a high number of supporters. Disney Worldwide Services has also backed the political committee “Voters in Charge” with a large sum of money.
The political organization has a plan to introduce the gambling initiative on the ballot which will take place in November 2018 and so far there have been a total of 415,596 valid signatures registered in the petition. This amount was sent to the state this Tuesday morning and this shows a remarkable progress in the collecting process since there is a whole year ahead of the committee. The total number of signatures which has to be reached is 766,200 in order to enter the ballot and according to the forecast of the experts, this is a feasible goal for the committee.
As it was stated at the beginning of their campaign, the final goal for the committee will be to alter the Constitution of the state in a way that will provide the voters with the power to make decisions regarding the gambling in the state. They will have the right to authorize casino gambling on a local scale and this is a change many people have been looking forward to for quite some time. If the community votes so on the ballot and the change becomes reality, all games which could be played in a regular casino venue would need the approval of the voters in the state in order to operate. The number of people who strongly oppose gambling in the state is growing each day.
What Measures Could be Taken?
The level of discontent with the current situation in the gambling field is high, because of the even higher rates of gambling addiction which are concerning the residents of the state of Florida. Another political committee which goes by the name of Floridians for a Fair Democracy is supporting another cause concerning the felons in the state of Florida. The members of the organization want to restore the voting rights for the criminals who have completed their parole or probation as well as paid restitution.
However, this measure is going to affect the felons who are convicted of petty crimes, unlike the violent crimes felons, who would not be eligible for this change. So far the committee has managed to collect a total of 388,566 signatures from residents of the state and they have submitted them to the state authorities.
